Grades matter. A higher-grade deadbolt survives more force and more cycles. For most homes a solid grade-2 bolt with a reinforced strike is the sweet spot; we will tell you when a higher grade is worth it and when it is overkill.
A deadbolt resists being forced in a way a spring latch cannot, but the lock is only half the system. The strike plate and the frame behind it do the real work under a kick, which is why a proper install reinforces that side too.
How a deadbolt install goes
On a the San Fernando Valley install we:
- Confirm ownership or authorization and check ID.
- Choose the right grade and backset for the door, and bore accurately if it is a new hole.
- Fit the deadbolt and reinforce the strike into solid material with longer screws or a strike plate.
- Test the throw, cut keys, and key it alike with your other locks if you asked.
- Check the bolt extends fully and turns freely from both sides before we finish.
- Point out any weak spot in the frame that would undercut the new bolt.
When you need this
- A door has only a knob lock and no deadbolt.
- The existing deadbolt feels flimsy or no longer throws fully.
- You installed a new exterior door that needs hardware.
- You want all your deadbolts on one key.
Honest limits
The bolt is only as good as what it throws into. On a split or soft jamb, we are honest that reinforcement or repair has to come first, or the best deadbolt still gives way.
What affects what you pay
We would rather quote you straight than bait you with a number that changes on arrival. You hear the price up front and sign off on it in writing before anything begins.
The main cost factors are the hardware involved, how the job has to be done, the time of day, and whether parts need ordering in. We walk through those with you on the call so the written quote holds no surprises.
How we keep it honest
Before we open a door, start a car or make a key, we confirm you have the right to be there — photo ID plus proof of residence, ownership, or authorization. It protects you as much as it protects us.
Our arrival estimate is tied to our actual location and the roads that day. If something changes it, we tell you instead of leaving you guessing.

Questions people ask
What grade of deadbolt do I need?
For most the San Fernando Valley homes a quality grade-2 deadbolt with a reinforced strike is plenty. We will point you to a higher grade only where the door and risk justify it.
Can you add a deadbolt where there isn't one?
Yes. We bore the door and frame accurately and fit the new deadbolt so it looks and works like it was always there.
Do you reinforce the strike too?
Always, because the strike and frame are where most forced entries fail. Longer screws or a reinforcement plate make the bolt actually hold.
Can new deadbolts match my current key?
Yes. We can key new deadbolts to a key you already carry, or key several alike so one key covers them.
Do you install smart deadbolts?
Yes — see smart lock installation. We will give you a candid view of which keyless deadbolts hold up before you commit.
